Painting

Back at it this weekend. I took my 12 color palette and mixed a further 36 from it, so I’ve got everything I need for the final painting. That was Saturday.

Then Sunday I started drawing out the grid on the canvas. I wasn’t looking forward to it; accuracy on a larger scale and on canvas that’s flexible is not always simple. I was lucky today, everything went to plan, and I managed to keep everyting within a millimeter or so of being “correct”. It was still slow and repetitive, but as none of it was frustrating, I had a good day, maybe helped by this canvas being smaller than some previous paintings, or perhaps cause I am indeed getting better with practice. Whichever it is, I’ll take it.

so there’s my not quite to scale drawing; my notes which try to remind me what I’m doing; and the grid that’ll hold the triangles.

I could have carried on a bit, but I felt like I’d done more than I expected and I didn’t want to push my luck. Soon I’ll actually be able to start painting! I have no idea how long this will take, as it’s a new one. I’m also not 100% sure I mixed enough paint, which would be a bit of a disaster haha.

I still feel it’s anyone’s guess whether this will all work anyway: if it does, great, if not, the next one will. I bet I wrote sth similar before, I’m in that doubting phase.

Music

While doing this, my favorite music of the day was the latest Creep Zone w/James Pants on NTS.

I’m a big Pants fan, ever since he first appeared on Stones Throw in the late noughties. He did a short mixtape for their podcast back then which had a big influence on what I listened to at the time. I had never heard Strawberry Alarm Clock until then, for example. It doesn’t seem to be online any more, which is a shame.

This show is great though, I love not knowing where I’m going (as long as it’s a trusted guide). When an absolute banger by my favorite group turned up I actually gasped. Anyway it’s a lot of fun, a mysterious hour. Dig it etc.
